OK, I'll try that too.
I found that "xemacs -q -vanilla" does not yet crash but
xemacs -q -vanilla -eval '(load-library "latin-unity")'
crashes (I am loading "latin-unity" in my start-up files).
It seems to crash in all locales.

Did you read and execute etc/InstallGuide? It's still the only sure
way!

The problem exists when I use the configure options:
[...]
--disable-mc-alloc \
--disable-kkcc \
--disable-newgc \
[...]
and it goes away if I use only:
[...]
--disable-kkcc \
--disable-newgc \
[...]
i.e. omit --disable-mc-alloc. But if I do that, xemacs crashes when
trying to build the sumo packages from source (on x86_64):

Can you please try to get a C backtrace for this crash?
Or even better, could you please test if this problem still exists in
current CVS, after the merge of MC-ALLOC into NEWGC with
--enable-newgc? If it crashes then, please report with a C backtrace.
