This is typical of attempting to compile a Mule file with a no-mule
XEmacs. Did you configure --with-mule?
You can probably delete this file with no loss of useful
functionality.
If you don't feel like taking chances, replace the code in the
functions with a reference to the argument (ie, convert them to
identities).
Then compile.

If the GNU version works for you, you can use that. But the XEmacs
version should work. Please give a more complete description of the
failure, including error messages or the lack thereof.
