If I configure the system with --with-mule and --cflags='-O3
-fno-schedule-insns', the function skip-syntax-backward() still can
crash XEmacs. This happens sometimes when (current-word) is called, or
when I type `C-h f' over a lisp function in a *Help* buffer.
Without MULE, I don't have such problem.
This is bad news. What gcc version are you using?
Could you please file a bug report with gdb backtrace, to
crashes(a)xemacs.org
