Back to XEmacs Beta, I'd like input from the SuSE guys, too. It's funny that it's only you big-name distro developers who are reporting this. Did you get a bug report which you're forwarding, or is this basically your own experience? The fonts.conf you sent me is very different from what I get from Debian "sid". Mike (Fabian), does SuSE do customization of fonts.conf and/or fonts/fontconfig like this?
