This is weird. With all my recent updates, the tabs widget manages to get itself into a tail-chasing state of flicker where you can tell it's flickering, but it's mostly not there. What's bizarre is that XEmacs still works, I can edit in the buffer even though the tabs are inflooping at the same time! It's happened a couple of times, so far C-l has always convinced it to recover. Don't know what causes it. I'm running in the debugger, but TSTPing it doesn't leave me anywhere useful.
