Here are the results of the test you suggested (running emacs with the command line flags below and attempting to connect to /ftp＠ftp.xemacs.org:/pub/xemacs/beta/ open ftp.xemacs.org ftp: setsockopt TOS (ignored): Protocol not available Connected to xemacs.org. Process *ftp ftp(a)ftp.xemacs.org* kill Exactly the same thing which happens when I attempt to open a file at work.
