Probably been discussed before, but why not Imlib?
And yes, I know that Imlib depends on a lot of others libraries, but

I must ask the three letter w-word here.
We went through the exercise of using the ImageMagick graphics library
some time back and it was so successful that we ripped it out and put
the old code back in.
What would using an image library buy us? Do the above libraries work
with Microsoft Windows?
