This sounds serious. It is not fixed in 21.1.8+latest sumo. Could someone fix that, please?

This bug in fixed in the latest FSF Emacs sources. (Based on somebody telling me that my fix had been committed.) Best to synch with that code. FWIW, I sent the bug report to `gnu.emacs.bug' and `comp.emacs.xemacs' on the same day, along with a fix.
