Try upgrading. 21.5 is the "unstable" mainline; we try to avoid
crashes, but you should be prepared for them anyway. Current
more-or-less stable beta is 21.5.27, but another is due soon.
I believe that Aidan recently fixed a couple of bugs related to
cut/paste, so you may want to move to CVS HEAD.

For crashes, we need a C backtrace. Lisp can't crash ;-) so it must
be in the C code. Also, if you don't have debugging symbols (since
you're using a distro, you almost surely don't) you will need to get
them. Some distros provide a debug version of XEmacs with the symbol
table in a separate file, for others you'll have to build from source.
