Yes, I think so:
It will confuse any UNIX and Windows NT utility dealing with file 
extensions (and people like me).
Consider the following code:
(mapc
 (function
  (lambda (s)
    (message "%s\n" s)
    (play-sound-file s)
    (wait-for-sounds)
    ))
 (directory-files default-sound-directory t "\.wav$"))
It will try to play the ``README'' file :-)
How about
READMEau
READMEwav
or
README-au
README-wav
?
