Last night I upgraded my Cygwin and XEmacs/Cygwin versions. I just noticed that there's now a problem with editing read-only files in XEmacs. When I edit a file that is read-only to me, the mode line isn't showing it to be read-only. I can enter characters into the file, but if I try to save the file, it (of course) gives me a "permission denied" error.
