So, did you tried 'apt-get install gcc'?
In case your system had borken dependency problem, you may also want to try 'apt-get
-f install'

Did him have all necessary gcc package installed? I suspect that
he didn't have necessary xorg header either.
No I don't have them
Maybe 'apt-get install xorg-dev' will help...
Unfortunately it did not help.
