Dear Bug Team!
The documentation says:
For practical purposes, a window exists only while it is displayed
in
a frame. Once removed from the frame, the window is effectively deleted
and should not be used, _even though there may still be references to
it_ from other Lisp objects.
The lisp code below does nothing that would make the window
not be displayed in the frame. Therefore, the above quote says that
the window should still be valid or not "deleted". But, window-live-p
returns nil. The XEmacs documentation below says that the return
value of nil means the window is deleted. Since the window was not
really deleted, I believe window-live-p should have returned t.
- Function: window-live-p window
This function returns `nil' if WINDOW is deleted, and `t'
otherwise.
(switch-to-buffer-other-window "NewBuffer")
(setq window (selected-window))
(read-string "Press ENTER: ")
(message "window-live-p returned %s" (window-live-p window))
To reproduce this:
1. put the lisp code above into a file named t.el
2. run: xemacs -q -load t.el
3. after it prompts you to press ENTER, go ahead and press ENTER
This bug causes ispell to fail. ispell.el apparently assumes a window
will be alive, but since it is not alive, ispell fails. So if you fix
the window bug, it will probably make ispell start working again.
Here is how to reproduce the ispell bug:
1. Run xemacs -q
2. Click the mouse on the ispell icon
3. It will say "XEmacs" is misspelled. Type the r key to replace that word.
4. type the ENTER key
It says, "Wrong type argument: window-live-p, #<window 0x106c>"
But of course, it should not give that error message.
Both the window-live-p and ispell bugs fail in xemacs 21.5.10, but not
in 21.5.9, so apparently, 21.5.10 was the first version to have the
bugs. The bugs remain in the current version of 21.5.13.
