It's easiest to handle 1, -1 and 2 args here.
(byte-compile-quo):
It's easiest to handle 0, +1 and -1 args here.

Byte-compiler arithmetic improvements.
Better optimize these expressions in the obvious way:
(+ x y 1) --> varref x varref y add add1
(+ x y -1) --> varref x varref y add sub1
(- x y 0) --> (- x y)
(- 0 x y) --> (- (- x) y)
(% 42 19) --> compile-time constant
(/ 42 19) --> compile-time constant
(* (foo) 2) --> foo call dup plus
Optimize away arithmetic operations (+ x) (* x) (/ x 1)
unless (declaim (optimize (safety 3)))
or (setq byte-compile-delete-errors nil).

Oops, the value of `xemacs-codename' is encoded. I put the following
lines in the beginning of my .emacs file unhesitatingly. :-p
(if (and (featurep 'xemacs)
(string-match "^21\\.2 (beta38)" emacs-version))
(setq emacs-version (decode-coding-string emacs-version 'iso-2022-jp)
xemacs-codename (decode-coding-string xemacs-codename 'iso-2022-jp)))

Legacy of the Gods.

Does anything actually go wrong?

Some MUAs refer to `emacs-version' or `xemacs-codename' to generate
X-Mailer or User-Agent header. The codename won't be encoded in MIME
format, and then such messages will be distributed in the world.
Yes, there may be no problem, but I think it is not beautiful.

See the Installation portion of Isaac Hollander's post, "21.2.38 Xlib
errors " <14893.41856.275086.41540(a)localhost.localdomain>.
That cannot be displayed correctly on no-mule XEmacsen, which is still
the default.
