Has the possibility been considered of adding a command
line switch to XEmacs to start it using a private
colormap? Netscape has the -install option for exactly
the purpose I have in mind.
The lack of this functionality is one of the prime
reasons I never use W3, and also view graphic image
MIME attachments using an external viewer. One colorful
image eats up all my available colors, and thereafter,
every time I start a new X client, I get nice
substitute color combinations of black on white or
worse, white on white, or black on black, until I exit
the current XEmacs session, freeing up some colors.
Naturally, if I weren't limited to 8-bit color, this
would not be a problem, but I am, and I suspect many
others are as well.
Please regard this a feature request. If it has already
been considered by the developers and rejected for some
worthy reason, please respond anyhow.
