But I bet it does make the global value non-nil in buffers where you
don't use x-symbol at all, right?
Some news.
I started with xemacs -vanilla, then I executed
(x-symbol-initialize)
opened a TeX file with local variable setting, obtained an error, I
explain below, but voila
x-symbol-8bits was t, as it should be.
Now the error was
(1) (local-variables/warning) Error in File local-variables: Invalid
argument: Invalid tag set, (mule-fonts)
That is a subject we discussed an my init file contains
(define-specifier-tag 'mule-fonts)
before
(x-symbol-initialize)
When I executed the specifier line and reopened the file, the error
message did not pop up, *but*
x-symbol-8bits was nil!!
This is really bizarre.
