Ok, let's look at it from a different view: It appears to me as if there's
no possibility to omit those Motif compatibility options when compiling
under AIX 4.3 - otherwise XEmacs (regardless whether 21.1 or 21.2) won't
run on AIX 4.3 and its belonging X11. I assume that it would be the same
story with any other comparable X application compiled under AIX 4.3 (and
hence Motif 2.1) and to be run under AIX' CDE (which is Motif 1.2).
Unfortunately I have no such application right here at hand; will try to
find.
But back to my actual problem, the brokeness of the `scroll-up-command'.
I've just rebuilt 21.2.19 and 21.2.20 resp. from the corresponding tarballs
(with the *same* configure options). 21.2.20 *does* show the aforementioned
bug when loading a file that doesn't fit in the visible area, 21.2.19 *does
not*, i.e. scrolling up and down is no problem. This leads me to the simple
conclusion that something got broken from 21.2.19 to 21.2.20 with respect
to scrolling. But what? And why does it only affect scrolling *upwards*? I
know that quite a lot has changed from 19 to 20 because of the introduction
of the gutter stuff. As I don't know XEmacs' source code as my vest pocket,
that's where I need your and the other developers' help. So any
suggestions?
TIA,
Markus
