I obtained re-builder.el from http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/\ emacs/emacs/lisp/emacs-lisp/re-builder.el To my ~/.xemacs/init.el I added: (require 're-builder) Subsequently xemacs stops with "Malformed list: :background" when run. I am very much a lisp novice, but if there is any other test I could run please let me know.
