I apologized for the fact that the original title of this note is wrong. I
had written a different note about a different problem (and resolved it),

I also noticed that when I execute a program that emits
output in "blocks"
(an application that times various things and then reports timings in
blocks), each "block" of output doesn't appear until I move
either the text
or mouse cursor.
