Ar an cúigiú lá de mí na Nollaig, scríobh Uwe Brauer:
Finally it seems that I can use xemacs-21.4.17 mule with UTF8
coding,
thanks to a suggestion by Aidan Kehoe.
Now I use this for wikipedia articles and it seems that I can copy and
paste that text, however only the latin-1 characters get displayed
correctly after the pasting, Greek for example ends up in ~~~~
is this a known problem?
I know about it. I don’t think it’s been formally reported here.
The issue is that XFree86 and its descendants don’t make ISO 8859-7 fonts
registries available by default, and that installing the requisite
fonts.scale and fonts.dir files to tell the server to to make them available
(the repertoires are certainly covered by available fonts), followed by
loading them in XEmacs, crashes the server for me. 21.4 has a fairly
simple-minded mapping from XEmacs charsets to X11 font registries. I’m using
something more subtle as a local hack to 21.5, which works much better with
things like Thai, or the IPA. I can put this hack up, if you want. I had
been putting off cleaning up and committing the C bits of it until I saw
what Ben committed for his unicode-internal, which may make it unnecessary
and obsolete, and that reasoning is still relatively valid.
