Why? The DEFAULT argument is what to return if the user pressed RET.
You're right. I've overlooked the fact that their DEFAULT argument
also worked that way.
So I agree that adding the DEFAULT arguments to other functions is
fine. We can implement the M-n magic when we see fit and it won't
break anything.
