Does that mean that 21.5.x does the IPA in a decent way?
Not yet--either Ben needs to commit his Unicode-internal implementation,
which has incidental better Unicode support with old-style internal coding
too, or I need to commit my change adding the latter.
For proper support of the IPA, you need combining characters, and that’s
still a long way away :-( . But living without combining characters in your
text editor is okay for lots of purposes--e.g. editing HTML where the
rendering of the finished document is done by a browser that does support
combining characters.
