It's a typo in the original PROBLEMS file for sed on Solaris 2.5.
(And I used to have this problem on 2.5.)

There's always the question: does the bug happen in 21.1? If not,
it's very likely an XEmacs bug.
As such, I don't have anything against documenting it in PROBLEMS,
which is as good a place for it as any, but we should indicate that in
this case the bug is with us and not with Sun's Motif.

Its related to widget use - which obviously aren't a 21.1 feature.
As such, I don't have anything against documenting it in
PROBLEMS,
which is as good a place for it as any, but we should indicate that in
this case the bug is with us and not with Sun's Motif.

And also the question: suppose we face an inconsistency / bug in
third-party code, and suppose we can write a workaround, but we don't. Do we
consider this an XEmacs bug ?

If it's in the OS, yes. Otherwise, we could just tell people to throw
away the 24 karat solid bug called NT, and save lots of effort. ;-)
It really depends on the bug, and whether it's likely to go away. For
example, libX11 regularly assumes that you will not pass illegal
parameters to functions where what's "legal" is nowhere documented.
This is not going to go away.
If we know how to work around one of those and don't, it's our bug.
