I think I saw the same thing. I twice lost my work. I had a buffer (c++ code) that was not under version control. I hit C-x v i. xemacs did NOT notice it was now under vc (no update of modeline). I reported this previously. Later, I lost all my changes. I think I hit C-x C-q, but I'm not certain.
