We do. It's called " *Message-Log*" (note the leading space). Use
M-x view-lossage to see a formatted buffer containing recent
keystrokes and recent messages, or use C-x b to switch to it.
XEmacs has a complicated hierarchy of warning/error levels (I just
found out about this myself *blush*). Some warnings get silently
dropped, others go in to the log buffer but otherwise you don't see
them, others get echoed, and finally still others do something
dramatic like abort the current command or pop up a warning dialog.
If you think that some warning should be more prominent, take a look
at the message to make sure it's clear, and tell us "when I do
such-and-so, I'd really like the doctor to pop up a dialog in my face
and tell me to _stop_ _doing_ _that_" instead of silently leaving me
to later lose badly.
