I'll reserve my decision as to what or how many PITAs I'm prepared to
put up with once I see some specifics. As yet, nobody has pointed to
any actual code that they want separated out from Gnus.

Lars is a very amenable kind of guy, but I can't speak for him so
you'll have to ask him. (as the XEmacs Gnus maintainer, I'd appreciate
a Cc)
Even if Lars is against the idea, and just between you, me, and the
lamp post, I think he would be, there is nothing stopping
XEmacs.org
from distributing a cut down Gnus + various sub-Gnus packages (PITAs
notwithstanding, of course).
On the surface, I can see the advantages, but at the moment I think
I'm more on the status quo side of the fence. This doesn't mean that
I can't be swayed, I just want to see something specific, as I said
earlier.
