Easymenu is the compatibility library in this case. The ideal solution would be to add the apropriate stub to the XEmacs version of easymenu.el[1]. It would be convenient if the XEmacs maintainers were warned early. I am not sure whether they were in this case but anyway there seems to have been some miscommunication as the function is not in the XEmacs easymenu.el.
