I don't know that it's 64-bits, actually. There's other bogosity in
there, and some of it may just manifest harder on these platforms.
I asked Wolfram Gloger about that code, and he gave a totally bogus
explanation (ie, valid for GNU Emacs, which has tag bits in the
_upper_ bits, but not for XEmacs, where all tag bits are in the _low_
bits) of why things were blowing up.
