 Underlines in 21.2 "Aeolus" look really ugly, as they did before. Here is
 a snapshot from a Gnus session: 
  What font are you using?  The underline drawing code takes hints from the 
font (which can specify both the position and thickness of the underline),
so it should always do the right thing.  If those aren't specified, it uses 
a thickness of 1 and draws the underline halfway down the descent of the
font.

  Could you see what upos and uthick are set to around line 950 of
redisplay-x.c?
