Stephen et al,
We are out of space on ftp.xemacs.org. I tried to move most ot the
21.4 tarballs to Attic, but I ran into problems with the "withdrawn"
subdirectory as you own those files. As far as I am concerned, the
"withdrawn" subdirectory can be completely deleted.
How many old versions do we want to keep? I'm OK with axing most of
the contents of the stuff older than 21.4, just preserving a few
milestone releases, like 19.16, etc.
Please let me know what you think I should delete and I'll have a go at it.

Done. I've also rsync'd the whole FTP site (I think; anyway,
everything that's physically under /ftp/tux/xemacs).

Do you want the union of preferences or the intersection? If you take
the union, I'm sure for every file somebody wants it. ;-)

I'd kinda like to keep all the Lucid Emacs releases (they're not in
any version control repository as far as I know) and xemacs up to
19.16. After that I think everything is in hg. So I guess everything
but the final releases of 20, 21.1, and 21.2 can go in those series.
That should free up enough space to keep us in business until I get
the new host running.

I already have a backup, but multiple backups in different locations

I stopped syncing when I reached 19G.

Yes, everything in the /ftp namespace is heavily cross-linked for
reasons I don't understand. The low quality of the current sysadmins
at Tux is the reason I want out of there. They used to either respond
quickly and accurately or delegate enough power to users to fix
things, but they don't do either any more.
rsync seems to understand symlinks, or perhaps resolves using
realpath(3). (At least the Tux admins aren't so crazy as to hardlink
directories!)
