I've switched my daily-use XEmacs over to 21.2, and observed that the progress bar seems to update the whole widget, including text, every time the bar is extended. (XEmacs is running on a relatively slow, loaded machine, across a 10Mbps LAN, and the local X server is XF86 4.0, which seems to have some slow painting issues on my workstation.) This is not what I would call widget-like behavior, because there should be no exposes being generated: the widget is the top window in the stack. Is this a problem with Falk's progress bar widget, or with XEmacs? The buffer tabs widget may have similar behavior in the sense that the whole thing often gets redrawn just because I change messages in VM (but this may be associated with VM's use of a presentation buffer separate from the folder buffer---it may very well be that the buffer list gets "dirtied" from the point of view of the buffers tabs).
