provide a way to suppress the behavior on th (hopefully) few that
don't.
Sure. The question is what the right thing is. I think the right
thing is to find the best visual and use it, like netscape does.
Didier worries about flashing, and Kyle worries about speed, and
preventing flashing and slowness is also right.
In any case I suspect that many people put up with flashing as the
lesser evil. I do on my 8-bit Sun.
I never did, and I hate the software that makes this kind of decision
for me. I've never used the `-install' or `-private' options on 8bit
displays due to flashing.
