Hey All.
The XEmacs review board has decided that the current directory
hierarchy of the 'xemacs-packages' CVS module was unnecessarily
confusing.
So the old hierarchy of:
xemacs-packages
comm
games
libs
mule
oa
os
prog
wp
has been changed to:
packages
xemacs-packages
mule-packages
The new CVS module can be retrieved with:
,----
| cvs -d :pserver:xemacs＠cvs.xemacs.org:/usr/CVSroot login
| password is "zawinski" (sans quotes)
|
| cvs -d :pserver:xemacs＠cvs.xemacs.org:/usr/CVSroot co packages
`----
You can also grab an individual package with:
,----
| cvs -d :pserver:xeamcs＠cvs.xemacs.org:/usr/CVSroot co gnus
`----
That gets you the 'gnus' package.
If you have the time and disk space [1], please check this new module
out of CVS and do some test builds.

already had a directory called packages that had nothing to do with CVS at all
that was causing the error

package archive correctly for *years*. On my debian unstable system, cvs 1.11
barfs when checking out skk:

The recent server upgrade apparently didn't fix this problem.

are also still around. I see it happen only with ssh. :pserver:

What I usually do in this case is to cd to the partially extracted directory and run
cvs -q update -d -P
This extracts the remaining of the tree. I do this repeatedly, until I
get the whole tree.

Yeah, it's barfing on 'SKK-JISYO.L'. I had the same problem, and
after half a dozen retries I ended up grabbing a copy of the file I
had somewhere else and manually editing CVS/Entries. [1]

Also, it seems that XEMACS_PACKAGES and MULE_PACKAGES are not taken
into account: `make' does generate autoloads and compile everything. I haven't
tried make install yet.

Oh OK. You still need to prepend the parent directory to each package
you want to install:
MULE_PACKAGES = mule-packages/edict mule-packages/egg-its
Also, the only make target that looks at [XEMACS|MULE]_PACKAGES is
'install'.
Please note that I didn't change the build process, I just moved the
directories around. There's still plenty of room for improvement. :-)

It's closer to 70+MB (over 73MB on my system).
I just did a checkout of the main CVS trunk (21.5.XX, I assume),
and here are some numbers (raw source checkouts):
xemacs 28+MB
packages 73+MB
packages/mule-packages 11+MB
packages/xemacs-packages 62+MB
