I can display the Info directory (C-h i) and select an info file to view. I can then press 'd' to redisplay the directory. After the directory is redisplayed, if I wait a few seconds the info dir buffer is replaced with text-mode buffer displaying an editable view of the direcrory but with contents that have been munged.
