Sorry about posting my own follow-up but it seems that the regexp-opt library does exist but is simply not being autoloaded for use by make-mode.el. I know how to kludge a fix for this locally in my own .emacs but what is the proper fix? Jake> Using XEmacs 21.1.8, I updated all the packages today.
