turns out (font-height ...) is broken on mswindows[1] ...
(set-face-font 'default "Courier New:Regular:10")
(font-height
(face-property 'default 'font))
16
(set-face-font 'default "Courier New:Regular:8")
(font-height
(face-property 'default 'font))
14
16 and 14 are the right line heights in pixels on my machine for those
fonts. The '10' and '8' in those font specs refer to the point size, not
to the pixel height. Adrian, would you investigate further?
