AFAIK XEmacs and the FSF's distribution of Emacs use different
mechanisms for dl. The port would not necessarily be easy.
Furthermore, unlike our modules, which are experimental but part of
the main development tree, modules for Emacs 20 are only distributed
as separate patches and are not supported by the FSF AFAIK.
dl-wnn and dl-canna might be of interest for distribution maintainers,
but AFAIK they have quite small C interfaces so there's no reason not
to compile them into Mule XEmacs by default. The reason that these
are used for (not "in") FSF Emacs is that the FSF refuses to support
any input methods except Quail as far as I can tell. (XIM is an
undocumented feature.) So this modularization is very useful to the
maintainers of the external Emacs-{Wnn,Canna} interfaces. We support
them, so we don't have that issue.
