I was looking forward to 21.4 for a long time because this problem was
fixed there.
Now, alas, the problem is also in 21.4.1 and 21.5-b0.
Can we try to fix this now?
I will need some help with this.

Yes. I just verified this got broken again on native Windows between
21.2.40 and 21.2.47.
It never worked on native Windows in 21.1. It has been confirmed to
work there under X.
Can you think of any likely suspects?
I'll try to investigate a bit with cvs diff.

This analysis was wrong.
mouse-track-insert between buffers DOES work in 21.2-b40, 21.5-b1, and
even 21.1.14 until one performs
C-x C-b (list-buffers)
Try this:
1. Start XEmacs
2. C-x 2 (split-window-vertically)
3. C-x b (switch-to-buffer) tmp RET
4. Depress Control key in tmp buffer, move mouse into *scratch* buffer
and double click a word there.
This works fine. Word will be inserted in tmp buffer. Great!
Now do
C-x C-b (list-buffers)
and mouse-track-insert now longer works!
Instead it will activate a region on the double-clicked work and
display set mark in the echo area.
Any clues anybody?

Electric-buffer-list has the same effect as list-buffers.
The funny thing thing is that I never realized that mouse-track-insert was
supposed to work with clicking. (I guess that is what the obviously named
mouse-track-click-hook is supposed to do).
Long ago, I patched my version of mouse-track-insert to extract out
the region clicked on by backward-sexp through forward-sexp.
