Hi.
Sorry, but I think I have to give up all further efforts to debug
the "long file names" problems.
After having spent some time trying to install the:
XEmacs 21.4 (patch 9) \"Informed Management (Windows [3])\"
XEmacs started complaining about my init.el file.
Not being able to spot any errors in this file, I de-installed
XEmacs on my PC, then deleted all traces of XEmacs.
Then I reinstalled the 21.4.6 version (from the xemacs-21.4.6.exe, which
also gives me the packages I want during installation).
Last time I did this, I had no problems getting vhdl-mode after adding
two lines to my init.el file.
My current 21.4.6 installation seems to be identical to my previous
installation of this version. I.e., my xemacs binary resides under:
C:\Program Files\XEmacs\XEmacs-21.4.6\i586-pc-win32
while my various vhdl-mode files reside under:
C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xemacs-packages\lisp\vhdl
To my knowledge, the various vhdl-package files should now be
covered by the default "load-path" (I know there's I way to
get the value of this path, but I don't remember how to ...)
However, now there no way I manage to load the vhdl-mode.
When trying to open a vhd-file, I just get the error-msg:
file mode specification error: (file-error "cannot open load file"
"vhdl-mode")
I'm begining to become a bit desperate now, as I guess it's only a matter of
hours
before my boss will instruct me to "scrap all your emacs stuff, start using vi
from
this moment".
Is there any way you can guide me to make my vhdl-mode work again ?
My "load-vhdl-mode" attempt can be seen in the two last lines
in the attached init.el file.
Desperate regards .......
Trygve

I've never seen this problem.
I just suggested to Trygve to upgrade so that he does not spend time
reporting any problem which are not present in Windows [3].
I currently use
(emacs-version)
"XEmacs 21.4 (patch 9) \"Informed Management (Windows [3])\" [Lucid]
(i586-pc-win32) of Wed Sep 18 2002 on D5DC120J"
Best regards,
Adrian
