The term "the display is Motif" doesn't have any meaning.
Let me re-phrase. I built XEmacs on a Tru64 UNIX system with Motif, so
the Motif support is built for dialog boxes. The system I display to
lacks a Motif library.
Basically, you might want it set to nil if the display is remote.
But
I would recommend using the interprogram-*-function variables instead.
The down-side is that x-selection-strict-motif-ownership is
interactive and very easy to change. The interprogram- variables
are not, so I need to do some defining in my init.el to make it
reasonably easy to turn them off.
