This is probably because you're using a mailer which uses a different
locking scheme. Do you have mandatory locks enabled in your kernel?
Which distribution, if any, are you using (I'm guessing RedHat)?
You could try configuring XEmacs to use a different locking
scheme---but this is potentially a recipe for losing mail. Study the
situation _very_ carefully.
