  gcc4-core                             4.5.3-3              OK
 The w32api files have also been upgraded fairly recently in cygwin,
 so that could be a source of trouble. 
Right.
 What version of windows?  I pretty regularly run a Cygwin/XP build,
 but it has probably been a few months.  I'll start up a new build
 sometime this weekend.
