I don't understand this. The variable vc-dired-terse-mode is wreaking
havoc again. This variable should be defined in vc-hooks.el I guess.
Technically, this variable should be buffer-local everywhere, but all
we do is set it to nil anyways. Let's set it once and avoid all the
potential void-variable errors. It seems there are similar settings
for other unused/unimplemented variables/features in vc-hooks already.

Now that we have all of these nice patches in the tracker, do we have to
submit them to xemacs-patches? I've been using vc with SVN daily for
3 weeks now and I haven't had a bug pop-up. There are some annoying
features that have been discussed, but nothing's perfect.

Yes. This is obviously redundant, so you *shouldn't* have to, but as
a practical matter the mailing list is where I look for patches, I
suspect most other committers do too, and sending patches to
xemacs-patches is the documented workflow.
Given the redundancy, I think it would be reasonable to substitute a
tracker issue id, file id, or (if you've got lots and lots of MIME-fu
:-) a MIME external object pointing to the patch's URL.
Regarding transition to a tracker-based workflow, discussion and
proposals are welcome. Two issues I can see offhand are that a lot of
people use Didier's patcher.el, which not only sends the mail but does
a lot of other stuff; people would still want to use patcher in the
tracker-based workflow. Probably the best strategy for a transition
would be to ensure that Roundup can handle patches by mail in some
appropriate way, and provide some patcher.el integration for that.
This might also be a killer app for the curl/neon modules I've been
working on for a while.
Other suggestions would be welcome, too.

OOPS! I have a follow up on this. Good to hear that it works OK for
you.
There are some more problems though:
- If dired-find-subdir is t then it seems like that in
dired-find-buffer-nocreate the check whether the buffer has the
right mode, dired or vc-dired-mode, isn't performed so that dired
or vc-directory wins in creating the buffer. Both commands are then
visiting the same buffer.
With dired-find-subdir equal to nil makes dired and vc-directory
use different buffers which is better.
- When you do a vc-directory to a directory that you already are
visiting in vc-dired-mode it seems like dired-sort-other is called
and it just assumes it should relist the folder. The GNU Emacs
versions seems to be smarter about whether a relist or not is
necessary.
If this is the right thing to fix or if the listing should be done
again and omitting the non changed files should be applied again is
another story.
I'll see whether I can come up with a patch but if someone would like
to help out with a fix for the above please do.

I'm seeing some weirdness here as well and dired-find-subdir is nil for
me. They do use different buffers. However, when I attempt to open a
dired buffer on a different directory, after I have had another
vc-directory buffer open, it assumes that I want a vc-dired buffer
rather than a dired buffer. So, I usually exit
XEmacs when I am done with VC. Problem solved :o)

I think I did stumble across this. But, I'm not real worried about that.
Re-listing is only a slight hesitation here. YMMV

Strange... I fail to recreate this. For me it works to do vc-directory
and dired intermixed and get the right mode in each case.
