Steve Youngs <youngs(a)xemacs.org> writes:
Where do you put your init.el (the old .emacs)? Perhaps if you set
'user-init-directory' to that location?
I answered `no' to the do-you-want-to-move-your-.emacs-into-.xemacs
question, so I still use ~/.emacs and have no init.el at all.
user-init-directory points to (non-existing) ~/.xemacs.
And then:
cp /usr/local/lib/xemacs-21.2-b44/etc/package-index.LATEST.pgp
~/your/init/directory/
Does that help?
If I create ~/.xemacs/ and copy the file there, "Update index" now
works. Thanks.
But "Update installed packages" still breaks. In a different way now,
though. Do you want me to eval-buffer some files to get a better
backtrace? The warnings seem to be caused by me having experimental
versions of some modules installed -- have the modules versions on the
ftp.xemacs.org server gone backwards? I'm pointing XEmacs at the
"experimental modules" download choice.
