It is supposed to automatically detect the line ending convention, and
automatically convert to the internal representation (which happens to
be "\n") on input, then back to the external representation on output.
Please send a bug report as generated by M-x report-emacs-bug so we
get version information, and also say whether this is happening only
with a specific file, or with all CRLF-format files. Also check
whether it happens if you start with xemacs -vanilla.
