Once more, a little problem I have building the CVS HEAD packages (I've
started so I'll finish?). I seem to be getting into the swing of this now: I
hope everyone else is enjoying themselves just as much as I am :-) (I'll do
the honest thing after this and drop back from HEAD for the packages too.)
The current installment of the saga is that the liece package refuses to
cooperate. I'm building using a locally built copy of 21.4.8, without mule,
with no packages installed on the box, on the latest release of cygwin on a
w2k box.
I get auto-autoloads.elc and custom-load.elc compiled but nothing else. I've
appended the relevant section of the make output to the end of the message.

And that fixes the problem indeed. Sorry, I had seen that patch but hadn't
realised that it was relevant. Thanks for the pointer.
Whether the package works is a separate issue: after performing the rest of
the installation process:
cd xemacs-packages/liece
./bootstrap
./configure
make
make install
The result loads, but M-x liece just gives me that common reponse:
wrong type argument, stringp, nil
I'm probably doing something else wrong but as I just want to get the
packages compiled, not to use liece (at the moment etc.), this isn't a
problem for me.
In case this is of interest to anyone, all of this was with CVS HEAD of
xemacs and the CVS HEAD of packages, with the latest release of cygwin
(1.3.10) on a w2k box.

p.s. I still have the problem compiling tramp-util.el (both with xemacs CVS
HEAD and 21-5-b6 -- fine in 21.4.8) where it loops in the lstream code, but
people seem to be aware of that so I've just cut that out of the makefile.
Perhaps now I can stop testing other stuff and get back to what I was
looking for in the first place :-)

roll a new liece package and get new Sumo packages out the door.

I guess this is caused by liece/lisp/gettext.el bug, since I saw a
similar error when attempting to install the liece package under XEmacs
21.4.6 Windows[2]. Try M-x liece followed by M-x setenv LANG C, and
then if you will get things working, it is the same problem I had.
Anyway, I've just committed the patch to fix this.

Provoke the error again
