XEmacs building process
XEmacs should build finder database for lisp files that go within

This would be good & useful.
XEmacs packages building process
Package-local database should be generated during package
building.
It is already. Building XEmacs packages from the CVS source generates
a file called 'package-index' which is a database of package
descriptions, version numbers etc.
The user can get to this information via 'M-x pui-list-packages'.
Now packages. Proposed functionality is new but might be pretty

cd package-lisp-dir; xemacs -batch -l finder -f batch-make-finder-index
I'm not sure that 'finder' would be needed for packages. I'll take a
look at your code and get back to you shortly. It might be a week or
so because I'm in the middle of getting the packages ready for a sumo
release.
