The XEmacs Review Board has approved targeting a release for March 1,
2001, based on the code currently in the 21.2 tree.
That's all that's official at this point. Everything else is more or
less still open for debate. Please debate! xemacs-beta will be the
primary forum for discussion of release plans.
The next steps: We will make a public announcement of the release
target and major features on comp.emacs.xemacs, comp.emacs, and the
XEmacs home page probably in a week or ten days. I'm the Release
Manager pro tem, and will probably be confirmed in that role shortly,
unless a more qualified volunteer steps forward. (Don't be shy!)
The current draft proposal is available at

http://www.xemacs.org/Releases/public-21.2/index.html
http://xemacs.sourceforge.net/Releases/public-21.2/index.html
The most current version will be available from
cvs.xemacs.sourceforge.net in the xemacsweb module. (The reason for
the profusion of URLs is that the automatic update scripts on
SourceForge are currently unreliable, to say the least, and
SourceForge is being slow to respond to the problem.)
Please note: I have done my best to ensure that the Draft Release
Proposal reflects the current opinions and latest information from the
Review Board and the core developers. But I'm the only one who has
touched this, and it's being done in a big hurry---so there are surely
errors of fact and tone. ALL errors and misinterpretations are mine
alone.
I would like to thank the Review Board members and several core
developers not on the board for their discussion and other input in
the process of preparing this proposal.
