Exactly how do you set your faces? Custom can be quite touchy about
variables it thinks it "owns". Historically it has _not_ worked and
played well with others. It keeps its own set of defaults and doesn't
hesitate to reset global values of variables to what it thinks is the
proper default when it wants to. It doesn't really grok specifiers
(in fact, it duplicates the specifier functionality in many ways).
Of course, nobody really groks specifiers except Ben. :-/
I wouldn't be surprised if there is some interaction here.
If it _is_ a custom issue, this is probably a Jan Vroonhof question.
