One question I've been wanting to ask, but keep forgetting - Is there a way I can force a buffer into the :T mode? What do you call this? I keep wanting to say text-mode, but that's something different. Or, how do a save a file with different line-endings (from LF to CRLF, or vice-versa). Cary

You can also use M-x set-buffer-file-coding-system RET undecided-dos RET and probably M-x set-buffer-file-coding-system RET raw-text-dos RET if you care about a sane name for the command.

Aside from Ben's and Stephen's comments, you can force the mode when loading a file using a C-u prefix (e.g. C-u C-x C-f, or C-u f in dired) and choosing a *-dos coding system, e.g. undecided-dos.
